Redundancy repayment if find new job

Hi,

We've just been told that our jobs are at risk of redundancy; in the information we've received from HR they are saying that any redundancy payment we get would have to be repaid if we find new employment within 4 weeks of finishing.

This means we'd effectively have to be out of work for at least a month. I haven't heard of this before and it doesn't seem very fair - does anyone know if they're allowed to do this?

Depends. The previous poster is correct - this is common in public sector organisations. But you don't tell us anything about it so we can't really advise.

The regulations will be similar to these.

It does seem harsh. But if you get made redundant from one employer and get a new job with a different employer covered by the same rules then you benefit from keeping your continuity and length of service. It can be a tough call if faced with a tempting lump sum.
