But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free :money:
Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important
Morning everyone :wave:thought I'd start us off before the forum closes down

Morning All
I'm up early because I'm going to do my voluntary job in the orphanange
It's the first time I've been away from the house since Sunday :eek: But this way I've reached 3 more NSD's
So today I have/will:- read the papers on line
- watered my seedlings and cuttings
- start my menu plan/shopping list for Saturday
- contact the guest house for DS1's honeymoon next year
- transfer money to architect for work done
- contact DD and ask why water bill has doubled since she moved in
- work at the orphanage
- contact friend about next weeks house guest - I think we've met him, but am not sure

- 17 mins on the CT - upping it a bit each day now.
Have a great day everybody :A0 -
Olive its so cool you do work at an orphanage, it must be really rewarding. Are there many orphanes in SA? I'm looking to set up charity payments when I clear my debt but want my funds to go directly to helping ppl rather than into oxfams coffers (admin staff etc) any ideas? xDF as at 30/12/16

Anyone else notice a lot of the regulars have dropped off of this thread? Hoping they're all having a lovely (extended) holiday & come back soon!
Fay can you give me some advice please? 1. my toms plants have lots of little flowers that haven't turned into toms yet - have I done something wrong or will they grow into toms but later?
2. How do you freeze them? Am beginning to think am going to have a 2 week period where I have home grown toms coming out of the kazoozers!
Thanks! xDF as at 30/12/16

Yes it is cool, I didn't think I'd ever be doing this.
Sadly there are a horrendous number of orphans in this country. This isn't really an orphanage as such - they don't live there, it is just a Day Care Centre really, but 7 days a week, breakfast through to supper for 3-18 yr olds. The school children leave after breakfast to go to normal school.
One Saturday I was there we cooked for 160 people. Every child is an orphan and many of them are in child-headed homes (usually grandparents for the remainder) Nearly all of this is down to HIV/Aids.
The rate of HIV is falling among young people in this country as they are more likely to practice safe sex, but with a president who openly admits to unprotected sex with multiple partners they are not set a good example. And they have their own "old wives tales" too, the President said he was not at risk as he had a shower after sex, and a previous minister of health suggested eating beetroot (or was it oranges?) cured Aids.......
I have no idea how to choose a charity to support, though I agree with you personal is preferable. But a large charity will have resources and political weight which individuals don't. I don't have money so I give time - of which I have plenty.

Morning all!
We're still up and running it seems?
My day today will consist of...- Walking dog for free exercise
- All food from stores
- Going shopping:eek: for some new clothes using savings - having tided up the wardrobe etc I have discovered that I have virtually nothing to wear to work (they have a strict buisness dress code) in Sept, so I'm going to try to find a few things that are reasonably priced that will last a good while
- Stay in and watch the soaps tonight
- A bit of ironing if the washing is dry - have decided that if I looked after my clothes better they'd look better and last longer
- Tidy kitchen
- 2 hrs school work
- Do some more shredding
- Empty bins
- Put all the charity shop stuff out ready for collection in the morning by cancer charity

Morning All:
Rachel - not sure if it's any good to you, but I saw tesco were offering double up clubcard vouchers for clothing instore. I know it's not as good as getting 4 times the value...but...if you need clothes and you have some vouchers it may be worth it.
I'm going to do it for some baby stuff as we have lots of vouchers
List today for me, I have/will:- HM bread in breadmaker
- cooked mince and freeze thats going (or maybe even gone) out of date

- BIL coming over tonight and cooking for us to say thanks for all that we have done for him
- lunch from stores
- phone round insurers for DH van insurance, its specialist so can't do it on line. First place, overing over £200 cheaper on one part of the insurance than he paid last year on a smaller van
- continue to sort and tidy... have moved last of boxes from hall into garage at last

- Washing on low or quick wash if I need to do hotter and line dry (or airer - looks like rain;))
- changed bed
- found out work are paying me holiday pay i am owed a month earlier than I thought meaning I only have one small pay check left :j
- phone nursery and get special number so I can set up vouchers from work
Think thats about all, have a good day everyone...0
