How much do you get through...?

I was just wondering how many logs/ per ton, etc.. does one get through in a typical winter, this is my first year with a log burner, i would like to know if I have enough to see me through and enough to season till next year.

Kind Regards.

Richard.

Most on here who use their burner for just wood would say around 6cu Metres. Personally, I have a multifuel stove and have a base fire of smokeless coke and then throw 2 or 3 logs on of an evening. In autumn/spring I only light it Friday nights and weekends and I can make 1 cuMetre of oak and ash last me a whole winter.

It all depends on the type of wood but buying wood isn't cheap like it used to be. Fortunately, I live in a rural area so collect, saw, chop and season my own. I only throw a couple of logs on in an evening though otherwise it would be way too much work for me for a wood only stove. But at a guess, for seasoned hardwood you are probably looking between £60 and £80 per cubic metre. I'm sure someone will be along to let you know what they pay for theirs.
  • WE use about the same in logs during the evening but I try to keep the fire stoked so that it says alight during the night .We put a load of washing in and then put it on a clothes horse in front of the stove to dry overnight. We aslo use two or three pieces of coal when it is really cold

We buy from a local timber yard. About 7 - 10 tonnes of what they call round ends. Costs us about £150 for the lot. Basically tree trunks from a variety of sources. We use about a bucket worth a night but we do have the fire roaring as it is connected to the central heating system so the whole house is toasty. (we have oil central heating also on the same system). I guess we use if every night from autumn until spring.
Oh, and we put coal on before we go to bed, turn it right down and it will still be lit in the morning and the house warm.
