Wanted: New Email Host. . .

Been using Purple Cloud for donkeys years but these days they just keep letting me down, support is now flakey and status updates minimal. It's down again right this second. :(

Just need a solid reliable email host to supplement my Gmail et al. I'm currently paying £10 a year. I don't need any major bells and whistles or any other hosting right now (maybe down the line).

Ta.

Is it required for business? I've been using Gmail since 2005 and have had no problems at all - I've used it for business use also.

use gmail from google and its free.
  • I suppose I could use multiple gmail accounts (I already have 3 on the go), however I'm rather fond of having a subdomain.

1and1, I've never had any problems.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

I gave up on Purple Cloud a few years ago due to unreliability.

For the last four years I've been with 1&1 (www.1and1.co.uk) and I must say they've been very reliable, plus they have more generous disk and traffic limits.

Neither Purple Cloud's accounts or support has kept up with the times. When I first signed up for their services they were a great niche budget host, not now.

Been aware of 1&1 for some years. I wondered whether they were a slight overkill. I shall take another look.

You could use Google Apps. Alternatively there is a list of paid e-mail providers and discussions of them at Email Discussions :)

I'm using the 'Beginner' hosting package at £2.49pm. 1,000 mailboxes, each with 2Gb storage, and includes web space if you need it (I just use it for email). There is an email-only package 'Instant Mail', which presently seems to be free for the first three months, followed by £0.69pm and give you 5 mailboxes.
