rci holiday clubs/time shares

whilst in cyprus i was stopped by a guy who gave me a free scratch card. he told me i won £600 abta holiday vouchers and to claim the i had to listen to a sales rep on how to get cheap holidays. so because it was so hot i went to see what they had to say. the commpany was called rci community and the showed me around a five star appartment. it was lovely,however it costs £5,500 joining fee then £299 per year for maintaince and £57 per year for the bourchers then all you pay is the flights for 1 week. then if you wanted extra weeks it would cost an extra £160 per week. then i was told that i could rent out my week to someone and go somewhere else for a low price (eg portugal £180). i said no to the deal because i dont have £5.500 and i had a gut feeling it sounded dodgy.

i was just wondering if anyone else thinks its dodgy or have had any experiances in this kind of thing.
