alone with a 2 year old in New York... help!

Hi there

I was supposed to be staying with friends in New York from 2nd - 5th October but they got dates muddled and can't have us to stay after all, so I'm alone in New York with a 2 year old for 3 days. Finding the prospect rather daunting! Any suggestions on where to stay? Need somewhere nice as I will not be able to go out in the evening unless I can get some trustworthy babysitting... All my friends keep suggesting lovely hotels but they don't take under 5s. Any tips for what to do in the day? All tips gratefully received!

thank you!

  • Mmmm, not directly answering your request, but..

I think I'd rather have a 2-year old in my hotel than a 5-year old.

    Hope it works out :)

With the extra cost of having to now get accommodation, would it not be cheaper to re schedule your flight ? Is that a possibility.

If not and you need to go on those dates, try asking on www.tripadvisor.com in the New York forum as they will be able to give you a specific answer.

    Good luck :)

  • seems better to stay in New York and make the best of things as otherwise I'm just throwing money away and quite a lot of it at that!

Hi, we went to New York a couple of years ago when our daughter was 15 months old. My partner took ill while we were there so spent 4 days of our 7 night stay in the hotel room! So my daughter and I were basically on our own. The Toys r us is a definate pit stop for you to visit. There is a character ferris wheel in the foyer for you both to ride i can't remember what it cost though but we spent alot of time on there! The store it's self is amazing and you can spend alot of time playing/browsing. Also Central Park is wonderful for passing time, I spent alot of time there and still missed chunks of it. She loved running around trying to chase the squirrels.

Having said all this I know a 2 year is different to a 15 month old so what I'm saying may be no good!

Can't help with hotels as I wouldn't recommend ours at all. Tripadvisor is a good place to start though.

Hope you have a wonderful time.

  • Not so sure about accomodation (place we stayed seems to have closed now - but was ideal - big suite lots of space, no age restrictions and ok cost!), but we took our then not yet 2 year old to New York last year. He had a great time, enjoyed Central Park, Natural History Museum, the lights around time square, FAO Schwartz with the big piano and animals, toys r us time square with the big wheel etc...

Thanks so much for all your tips. Had a wonderful time in New York in the end, although Martin would be horrified at how much money we didn't manage to save.
