Pet insurance

I have had my Labrador retriever insured with petplan from birth.

Premiums have risen over the last 3 years, and this year they want £20.39 up from £18.85 an 8.17% increase.

I am a bit hard up now and would like cheaper premiums without compromising cover.

I tried the links from Martin's cost cutting article but moneysupermarket only had 3 companies with varying levels of cover none of which was suitable.

I want whole life cover so if I have to claim it won't be 12 month maximum on any condition.

Who do you good MSE'ers use? Can it be done?

Cover is as follows

Vet fees 4000 xs 80
Boarding 250 xs nil
Comp. Treatment 750 xs nil
Advertising 250 xs nil
3rd party 1,000,000 xs 250

This dog will be used for stud so cover is important. If I can't get like cover then will continue with petplan. Need any alternatives before 29/09 as new renewal kicks in then.

Thans in Advance
I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

Marks & Spencer with the £0 excess option will likely be a little cheaper. That's what I went for when we got our new puppy last month. M&S had some significant price rises just recently so the insurance isn't the bargain it once was, but is certainly competitive compared with Petplan especially once you factor in the excess.
