Insurance Review

We've been in our new house almost a year so I'm about to review our insurance policies and utilities etc. to make sure we're still on the best deal. I just wanted to check the best places to do this:
I thought that for contents & buildings insurance and utilities I would be better off on the comparrison sites. Is this correct?
We also have critical illness cover and redundancy cover (not sure that's the correct term?). Would I be best off talking to an IVA for these insurances?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hoping to buy out the ex and/or create a beautiful life for DS and I.
Current mortgage (Nov. 2024): £365,136.76. Approx current house value £550k. Mortgage up Sept 2026
Current emergency fund (Nov. 2024): £36,837 (1 year of current expenses, inc. childcare & dog)
Current buy out/moving fund: £37,136.01 (so pretty far off the target for option A)

Regards buildings and contents - if you live in an "average" house, have no claims, no special risk features etc, then you will probably find the lowest price for some buildings and contents cover via a price comparison site.
You will find it harder to find the best cover or service.
Consider your needs carefully and look for other threads on home insurance on this website. Look for the level of cover you need and find the policies that meet that, then compare prices. If you look at defaquto cover comparisons to help with the process, e.g. http://www.defaqto.com/compare/home-insurance-contents
Usual advices otherwise apply
- make sure your sums insured are adequate and up to date
- you have listed any high risk or valuable items you need to
- you have sufficient personal posessions cover
- do you need AD cover or not? It has a much much higher claims frequency so is more expensive, but if you are doing work to the property it can be helpful
- Live in the South East or a city center where property is expensive? Look for a higher alternative accomodation limit
- Handy to have AD to drains/mains services which a lot offer as standard0
