Vodafone - Mobile Broadband

Hiya

Not sure if this is the right board to be posting this but thought i'd start off here and maybe someone will move me elsewhere!

My OH took out a mobile broadband contract with Vodafone for our laptop for 18 months, which he subsequently had for about 23/24 months. We bought a computer and installed normal broadband so I advised him to phone up and cancel his mobile broadband, he didnt call though, he just cancelled direct debit and stopped paying them.

They have now sent a bill for circa £41 stating that he should've given them two months notice to cancel, and that he'll have to pay. He argued a bit and got it reduced to £30, which he paid.

He's worried this will affect his credit score, dont think it will as it was a bill that had to be paid by end of July, which he did.

I'm wondering whether we can get that £30 back? I know he probably should've called them to cancel, but he was out of his intital contract period....

Any advice?

I very much doubt you ll get the £30 back.
No doubt they will pass the account onto a DCA next.
If that happens just post back here & we'll help you from there.

If you stop paying it does not cancel the contract. It is actually considered breach of contract against you.

After the min term finishes, you are on a 60 day rolling contract, as you have to give 60 days notice to cancel. (30 days for mobile phones).

By failing to pay he will get 1 or 2 late payment markers which will have only minimal affect since you caught the issue early. But the contract must be cancelled properly otherwise you will get a bill, a default notice and debt collectors. The default notice is what does the damage.

He did well to get it down to £30. But no you cannot get it back, it is payment for services received over the 2 month notice period.

What you should have done is given the cancellation notice/request to vodafone 2 months before the minimum term was up, so it ended when the min term had finished.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
