For everthing else there's mastercard.

depends on the company, some review monthly, some every 3 months, and some every 6 months, if your after an increase, why not phone up, its worth askin! xxxx
  • Usually if you have a large balance for a while, then pay it off then the limit goes up by "magic" ;)

I have heard this before and tried it with (my now closed) Virgin card, it didn't work for me sad to say.

Just random as you like methinks, have had cards upped without my asking, and have then rung said company to reduce the limit, which always seems to surprise !!!.

  • Yea its not a bad place. I found Barclaycard would up the limits frequently when i had one ages ago. I know some banks are meaner then others!

I can't say I've noticed this, although I rarely pay off balances except where cashback's involved.

What definitely works, is to shift the balance to a rival card (preferably a 0% balance transfer card of course.) The effect is particularly marked in the case of MBNA issued cards.

I would think very carefully before doing this. For an explanation, please see the *Closing credit cards/reducing credit limits* thread below.

Morgan Stanley and MBNA used to up mine every 6-9 months.

Since I reduced my credit limit last year, they havent done so.

all the bad credit cards, up the apr regualary, as the limits start so low,

such as vanquis, capital one, etc, and monument ,

if you have a larger limit, maybe less regular

I've mostly encountered every 6 months, but as some have suggested its really up to the card lender to decide how often they review it
