in Credit cards
Hi All,
Just wondered if anyone has had any luck claiming back money through their credit card for a booking made through 1800hotels.com?
I bought a week in Paris over Christmas 3 weeks ago and now find out they have gone bust. Hotel and GTA have no record of any booking or request which means 1800hotels.com have taken the money.
Can't get proof from GTA (as no record of booking) and 1800hotels.com is bust! All I have is the email confirmation from 1800hotels saying I have booked and paid in full. HELP!
Egg Card are saying I have to fill in a form and send it back with relevant documentation they require (won't tell me what over the phone - typical) but just wondered if anyone had any luck or advice. Am persuing through Section 75 but a little concerned over comments I have read which state as they are not a travel operator we are screwed!
Any ideas?
Thanks
Very worried....

I don't think them being a travel operator or not has any bearing on a Section 75 claim.0 -

Do not worry, i know its a bother going through the loops especially when some card providers will try to avoid paying out. As Egg is part of Citibank I would not expecttoo much of a trouble.
You are actually lucky 1800hotels.com went bust now. Atleast you have time to book another hotel(pay by credit card again!!) unlike the poor souls who booked with Goldtrail and had to return from the Airport without a holiday nad no time to book another one!!!...
You should get your money back, the process is normally pretty simple, they will send you a form and ask for documentation. You can send them a copy of the confirmation email form 1800hotels.com; fill up the form in full(if you do not understand teh form ask the card company) and if possible send them print out of the fact that 1800hotels.com has infact gone bust(just in case they try to delay things).
After that it should be pretty straight forward, they should reverse the charges in the next 4-6 weeks.
Egg would normally contact the merchants bank and request a chargeback and then you get your money back. The only way you do not get your money back is if 1800hotels.com delivers the booking which they cannot if they have gone bust!!
Best of luck:beer::beer::beer:0 -
Thanks for all your responses. Egg are sending me out a form in the post and I have all that I have printed off, so we shall see what they say.0

Just checked a google search for 1800hotels.com and came up with this..
http://www.1800hotels.com/
Am sure you have seen this. As a US company this makes things a bit different....as you guessed they are AMERICANS...unlike us lowly british!!! or otherwise..:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Chaoter11 bankruptcy gives them a bit of protection wherein they could restrcuture and still provide you your holiday...(as the statement says!!)
that as the americans always do... "leaves us the wolrd, in the lurch"""....
Sorry.. hopefully Eg g takes a better view..
Best of Luck!!:beer::beer::beer:0 -
Well this is strange, the website has gone live again and seems they are taking bookings?!
On the phone to the freephone number but no one is picking up. Just booked another hotel now as well direct with the hotel...argh!
Why is the website live again?!
Sent them an email today but no response.0 -
Chapter 11 bankruptcy gives a company protection from creditors and aloows it to stay trading. So I would guess that in the interim their website went down and now they would start ttrading again.
Hopefully your new booking is cancellable so that if 1800hotels.com does provide you your holiday then you can atleast cancel the new booking.:beer::beer::beer:0 -
We lost £600 on our honeymoon 1 and a half years ago when we used trip advisor to book a hotel in singapore through 1800 hotels.
We booked in May 2010 and didnt find out till we got to the hotel in September that the booking had been cancelled, and that they went bankcrupt in July.
We didnt have a credit card at the time so used a debit card. Afterwards we applied to the mid florida bankruptcy court, but in about a year we havnt heard a thing. I saw an advert for 1800 hotels and see they are trading again, which anoyed me as u can imagine.
Is there any hope in hell of getting my money back?

The current 1800hotels is a different company - the name has been bought, but not the undertaking, so your position has not changed.0 -
So if our position hasnt change, is there still chance of one day getting money? or do they not bother paying small creditors
On another note, why would a new company want to buy the name of 1800 hotels when it is known by some to have gone bust and screwed everyone over. (by taking bookings and not booking hotel 3 months before actually anouncing they were bust)0 -

... I would imagine that being an established brand (even though they were not at the end) it would benefit their business. The fact that someone else is putting money into the company now would increase their past customers confidence to continue booking. It's like avoiding a startup all over again.0
