What new hoover should I choose?

Our Dyson has died- it lived a good life of 5 years! Now I need to get a replacement urgently. What should I get? A sebo, another Dyson or a Miele?

Any suggestions? and are there any offers on any of them at the moment? My budget is £250-£300.

Thanks!

    My Sebo has been brillliant!
Much prefer it to the Dyson I had.

Remember that you have to get the bags etc. but I still like it better.

Thanks Mags- could I ask how often you change your bags and if they are expensive? I've only ever had bagless ones.

Thanks Kenshaz I'll check them out. I would thank you but your button has disappeared!

  • I have Mieles - very good they last more the 5 years in my experience.
Sebo are also good from what I have read.

I'm avoiding Dysons - they have shorter lifespans now I have heard from friends with broken ones. I am told you get great suction until up to when the filter needs cleaning and then after cleaning it is never the same - this is what I have been told - no personal experience to I'm not sure how it works.

What you've been told is correct. Dysons have a very short life span. If you do very minimal light hoovering, you're fine, but otherwise, you're in for a lot of pain.

Dysons work on the architecture of lots of small components to improve suction power. However, in general, these components break on a regular basis and you end up with a machine where Dyson continually send out spare parts.

There are plenty of machines out there. For cheap durable machines, go for a Henry. For an all in one machine, go for a VAX. Most of the others are variable - some are good, some not so good. ;)

  • Maybe we've just been lucky but our Dyson is in its seventh year and still going strong. Only ever needed to replace the long tubing on the attachment hose, which split. And it certainly hasn't had light use! It's used several times a week. It's also been used in the past to suck up lumps of plaster, rubble and all sorts. I bet having said that it'll blow probably up this week!
  • those SEBO'S look excellent look on the internet and you can pick one up for £188.00 then you have to buy the extra's , hoover bags and other stuff , but they are cheaper than the dyson. i have a dyson dc14 and i saw the sebo in the good house keeping magazine and they have been rated excellent by lots of people and various magazines. ( the sebo will be my next hoover ) im asthmatic and so is my 3 year old son, these hoovers are german as well.

ive had dyson hoovers since 1997 , dco1 ,dco7,dc14 no problems with them they do need a lot of looking after and if you dont they wont last long. so follow those instructions if you do get a dyson. ive had my dc14 since 2004 and it works excellent and i take good care of it. if you hoover over a wet patch by accident you can damage the filters , also you have to clean all the hoover top to bottom , bin and all , and fliter on top of hoover needs cleaning every 6 months. they do cost a lot of money dysons but they are excellent hoovers if you look after them. plus now you get five year parts and labour for free , before it was 2 years. saves buying that extra warranty. there aftersales is excellent as well.

    see you from kerry.
  • Our DC01 is in it's 12th year - used every day (one of the first!) and we also have recently got a DC14 Blitz it - 5 year guarantee - which is brilliant.
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
