Newbie: credit card cancelled - will a DPA report say why?

in Credit cards
Hello.
Halifax just cancelled my visa card, and I called to ask why (it's been in credit of 30 quid for over a year) and the man hinted that I must have had a bad credit rating report - as they check every 6 months.
I think this is unlikely - I shall also request an Experian report, but I thought I'd do a DPA request to see what they have on me. Does that anywhere state the reason my card is being cancelled?
Thanks in advance
Lucinda

It is in the terms of the account that you cannot hold a credit balance on a credit card. If it's been in credit for over a year it's possible that you have breached the terms of the contract and they have therefore cancelled it.Getting married 02.08.14

No it won't necessarily state the reason.
But you haven't operated your card correctly for quite some time.
Why do you think they should want your business?0 -
I thought this might be the case... that, I am not in debt enough! I wonder... ?
The customer service person also said I could send them a credit report to defend myself, and ask for my card to be kept open. So I will try that too.0 -
Alot of companies are now not just "scoring" as in always pay on time high scorer, loads of defaults and missed payments bad. Many now look for a certain profile of customer that will make them money as opposed to keep a clear account. For their point of view you make them nothing as the account is unused.

It's not a matter of not being in debt enough. Although the CSA did mis-advise you.
It will have been due to either having kept a credit balance on the account which is a breach of the terms and conditions or letting the account become dormant i.e not using it for 6 / 12 months.
They don't have to disclose the reason. They can just say it was a "business decision"Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

IMO you are wasting your time appealing.
Why should they want to spend money on you when you haven't used the card at all?
They are paying admonstratively to keep you.
They are not a charity.
Obviously it's your choice but I suspect you are wasting your time.0 -

I take it you have not used the card hence the reason for the static credit. Sounds to me your pride has been hurt but get over it. You are a very unprofitable customer and in my view HX have acted correctly. They can now release your credit limit to someone who may make use of it.0
