How important is it to be on electoral roll?...

when applying for a credit card?
I'm on about the Capital One Classic to re-build my credit rating.
I've changed my details with my local council, but I missed the deadline and won't appear in it until 01/09/10
I rang up Capital One and they said, I can still apply but they would not comment on whether it would affect my chances of being accepted.
Should I wait until I'm on the electoral roll or just try and apply??
Apologies if this has already been posted before

Wait for the update.0

It will have a very negative impact on any kind of credit applications, you need to wait for the CRA to update your file. You might be on the register from September but it can take up to an additional 8 weeks for the credit reference agencies to update their system. So am afraid you'll have to wait another couple of months at least before any successful application can be made0

Thank you for the speedy responses
I thought that may be the case and I dont want to risk not being able to apply for another 6 months
Again thanks, so many helpful people on these forums0 -
When I applied to Capital One last month shortly after getting the council to update the electoral roll, Capital One wrote to me asking for:
- Photocopy of Passport
- Utility Bill
When I sent them they accepted me :j although if you apply online the computer may say No as soon as it searches online so your probably best waiting...0 -
Hi
You do need to be on the Register.
I applied to my Council in February this year as am now on it.
Has no problems at all.
Applied for a Halifax Credit Card back in December when not on register and was declined but I bank with them.
Applied for a Capitalone last Monday 12th July, online application.
Got a letter today asking for a photocopy of my passport and Driving license.
Great that my post office has a Photocopying machine.
Sent off paperwork this morning.
Also checked my credit report and all OK there.
So does help alot getting Registered. I just sent off a form that my council sent me after I emailed them.0 -
One last question sorry
I've been looking at this Aqua card and it mentions in it's "criteria" so to speak that if you're not on an electoral roll or have recently moved, you can still apply
So are they basically saying that not being on the electoral roll won't affect their decision?0 -
It means they won't discount you just because you're not on the roll. They'll look at other aspects of your application, so if everything else looks good, you may well be accepted.
But obviously if you're not on the roll, AND have defaults, AND a CCJ, AND are also a sci-fi fan or have any other undesirable traits, then it'll still add up to a big fat no.
So if you're looking to make an application before the roll is updated, it's certainly one to consider. Remember it's a higher rate card though.0
