Credit card charges

in Credit cards
I instructed my bank to pay my credit card bill, to arrive by 26th June. They complied and the credit card's bank account accepted the payment. Because the 26th was a Saturday, the payment then sat in their account until Monday when it could be processed. This obviously meant that the payment was late and they slapped me with a late payment charge and then interest. I have written to the credit card to complain and they claim they will hope to resolve the matter within 28 days. Problem is, the charge and interest are due in 10 days. Do I pay them off and then try to claim the money back once the matter is resolved in my favour, or, hold out and not pay them a penny more ? Concerned it may affect my credit rating (if it hasn't already !!)
