I was a week old when I first got on a plane. :D

But I don't know if there is any 'recommended age' from GPs or Heath Visitors.
    Good, clean fun.... :D

Most things you read in parent mags and airline gumph say 1 week old minimum to fly.

I had a 12 day old baby on one of my flights, that was the youngest I saw. What country are you planning on going to as the baby might be too young to receive the correct immunisations?

Were going to Grenada in the Caribbean
  • Babs will be fine. We have taken our son abroad from really young - weeks old. (His first flight was from UK to Hawaii!!) We are now in the lucky position that at two he considers a long haul flight just one of those things! off to LA at New year. i am so glad i ignored all thsoe people who warned us off going with a baby so young (including the health visitor!)
  • All I would say is consider where you are going and if they need to have immunity to anything!

not too sure if this is right the reason butthey say too young babies shouldn't fly is because the ear drums maybe havent fully developed yet and can cause problems when there is pressure etc. if the baby is fit and well i see no problem. we have flown with our 3 month old

A friend of mine told me about a sad story of her colleague. She was taking her month old baby back home to see her nan, but tragic happened :(

Since then I think it's not a good idea to take young infants on the plane.

I know it is different for different babies, but I thought I'd share with you this real story.

Nearly right. Babies do not have well-developed Eustachian tubes (which is why they are more likely to get glue ear) and changes in cabin pressure can worsen ear-ache. Flying with grommets in place is fine though.

The added advantgae is that a baby sucks (dummy/breast) quite frequently, which will stop the ears having that popping sensation. A baby that young is much easier to manage on a plane than a toddler wnating to climb all over the place!
