Orange Everyphone Broken
Orange Everyphone (dial 330), the free service for diverting calls to other Orange phones or landlines, broke down in the past week or so and according to discussions elsewhere on the net, it is beyond repair (it used to be for everyone, then support was withdrawn back in 2003 and still available to businesses - however, it has been working until very recently as I was using it!).
Some discussions on uk.telecom.mobile claim following conversations with Orange CS that a new service is going to be launched in February - does anyone know what it is or when it will launch? Any inside track on whether Everyphone will rise from the ashes anytime soon or is it definitely dead?
Many thanks

Has anyone else using 330 found that theirs is still working?
Many thanks

I used to make use of Everyphone, but finished my fomer contract with Orange last year. I was therefore dissappointed to find that upon reconnecting, the nice lady on 330 said that "I'm sorry, this number is currently out of service".
End of beautiful story? Perhaps not, as I find that my Orange bill charges me for the abortive call, and if I call from a non-orange account on 07973 100330 the call still connects to nice lady "I'm sorry, thi...."
Worth keeping an eye (ear?) on for an Easter resurrection, though don't get too addicted to her dulcet tones, as they cost you 10p per minute.0 -
I asked and they said it was discontinued for new customers some time ago (Oct 03 maybe). I asked for it to be reinstated for my old phone; she checked and said it's totally discontinued.
I said this was unfair; ordinary diverted calls are separately charged and do not even come from included minutes; perhaps they would consider varying this? I must write in.
No suggestion of replacement. Reason to discontinue - not much call for it - which I translate as overloaded and underinvested.
edit - how about another reason to discontinue? You set up a SIPphone account with a UK landline number that diverts incoming calls to a foreign mobile cheaply; then divert incoming Orange calls to the SIP number. No roaming income for Orange. Well, actually that's the reason I wanted it to still exist
Which might give a clue what the new product might be ...0 -
Calling 330 now reveals something different to my last post, though for me at least, this brings no real advance.
"Sorry, that is not a valid Everyphone number", but I'm on an OVP tariff so perhaps I would never have been entitled to it in the first place?
Someone with an Orange own-tariff could maybe test this, but as I said before, watch those pesky not-out-of-your-bundle charges.0 -
Im on a regular orange tariff (ie not OVP) and i also get the same message as thefirs. So not sure whats up?0

They still maintain that it was discontinued some time ago and there are no plans to re-enable or replace it0
