Hi,
I'm looking at selling my car but I am unsure of all the places I can use to advertise. So far I have just used autotrader, does anyone have any suggestions?
Regards,
Rik
(I hope this is okay in this forum)

Take care that you don't get caught by the con artists that ring you up saying that they'd seen your Ad in Autotrader and have several people lined up who want to buy a car like yours - just pay £95. All they do is readvertise your car in another website or publication.0

I put mine in the local paper - it took a bit of time but it went. They charged per word and price of car and it was something like £17 for a three week deal over 4 papers. It meant that I didn't have any issues with distance for the person who wanted to buy it and them getting to me/me getting to them sort of scenario.
I also put a bright yellow sign in the window of the car. No response, but I felt better!0 -
I definitely think that Autotrader is the best but you can get lots of calls saying that they want to sell your car. If you can just ignore them they do get the best exposure.
Another way to sell is via E-Bay. A friend seemed to get exactly what she wanted in price and it was easy.
Hope it helps ;-)0 -
My other half deals in used cars so these are the tips I've picked up from him!
If you advertise on Autotrader always put 'No Canvassers' at the end of your ad (or if that doesn't fit, NC, though this is sometimes overlooked) - it prevents those scam type calls making out they've got buyers for your car.
Why not also try the free places to advertise your car.
https://www.freeads.com is a good place to start. Then there are the paper versions - you must have a Free Ads or Yellow Paper or something similar in your area - have a look in your local newsagents. The papers cost a few quid to buy, but you could either just copy down the number from the paper, or just buy it knowing it's just gonna cost you that few quid to advertise.
If you have any local shops / post offices etc that allow you to put ads up, do that also. Make sure you stick a picture of your car onto your postcard (or make a poster if they allow it) and stick it up - these are often free to put up or a nominal charge of like £2.
If you want to take the hassle out of selling your car you can look for a dealer to sell it on for you. Not sure what area you are in, but as an example my other half often buys cars off people who don't want the hassle of selling it on, or alternatively advertises and sells it on their behalf (though this is difficult if the customer doesn't live local and can't give regular access to the vehicle etc). Choose an independent dealer that has been recommended or that you trust if you do this as some main dealers only pay absolutely bottom money.
Might also be worth thinking about whether there are any auctions in your area (real ones, not online). There are a few in my area where private customers put their car through.
Hope these few ideas help. Definitely consider the free ads though, although they may not generate quite as many responses as some of the other more expensive options they are free - after all, this site is all about money saving.
