New Zealand again, but for Nov or Jan please.

Having seen vixxann's posts(thankyou to all who have written there)I wonder if I might ask for help, too. I am unencumbered by family or timetable needs, so can and will travel however possible to get there - my only family is there and I have been long away.
Cheapest possible flight only is my sole criterion - I'll be mostly in Napier and would like to stay maybe 1-3 months. None of that really matters.
Any clues/advice/hints(msers abound in life experience!)will be wonderfully appreciated.
Thankyou.

Use the info from Vixxanns post for who to book with and get them to quote you, but tell them you are variable with dates to get the best price.

When I went to NZ, it was in January and was for just under 3 months. A return ticket was NOT the cheapest option, but a round the world ticket was, even though I didn't go around the world, just far away and back again.

I got a free stop in Thailand, one in Australia, flight to Auckland, did NZ, free stop in OZ again and free stop in Singapore on way home all for a price less than a NZ return.

I know you may not want to visit these places as well, but if you are flexible, it's a great way to break the journey up

I would def just get a price to Auckland and then internal flight to Napier.

    Also try www.flightcentre.co.uk and www.statravel.co.uk

Since you are flexible, you will get some GREAT deals I am sure.

  • Hi

I too would say get a flight to Auckland and then book your internal flight to Napier.

I am travelling Man-Napier in November, I put in details of flights on Air Nz web site for Man-Napier and the flight was a silly price. Much cheap to book internal seperate.

If you can wait until all school children back to school in Jan around middle of jan you will be able to get a cheaper flight.

Most airlines web sites will show you price for a flight on a particular day, it usually goes on date of departure aslong as your not intending to come back at Easter- for ref my children break for Easter on 5th April.

    Have a great trip.

BA have a sale on at mo.
    April Grocery challange £175

    Spent week 1 £29.90
    week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.54

FWIW I'm making by sixth visit to Australia in November (Ashes) then onto NZ for my fourth visit, and am also doing a RTW Ticket for the fourth time.I'm fying with the Great Escapade combination i.e. Singapore Airlines, Air NZ and Virgin, which works out at £1,100 and is £300 cheaper than if i'd used Star Alliance.
My route is London - Singapore - Hanoi - Brisbane - Christchurch - Auckland - LA - Las Vegas - London.

Once you've departed London , the ticket is "fully flexible"

My apologies to alison74, swizzle and mystic_trev for late thanks, have not been at 'putah this week.
Have heard various 'wait 'till after mid-Jan' remarks, so will do so, probably.
I will now expose complete idiocy - have done quite a bit more hunting about, but am not sure how I ask system for RTW fares, as opposed to a standard return.

It's much harder to do for RTW fares. You can put in 'multi destinations' as an option, but this would give you an inflated price as it gives you flights you want, rather than the cheapest / best deals.

I would email your requirements to somewhere like STA Travel and they get back to you quickly, otherwise you will have to do it on the phone. If you do it on the phone, just ask the sales assistant to phone you back so you're not paying for the calls (unless its an 01 / 02number and you get free calls from your home phone / mobile anyway). They will do it as you are a potential sale and it's not the sales assistant's phone bill !

Trailfinders telesales are efficient, so are flight centre.

My only advice is that if you don't think the person on the phone is on your wavelength trying to get you the best deal, then ring back to get someone else. I have had extremely helpful travel agents on the phone (Trailfinders) so have used them again and again and some just terrible ones on Travelbag where I made my excuses and hung up (that's not to say YOU wouldn't get a good assistant at Travelbag - it was just my experience)

It's a huge trip you are doing, so you want someone in your corner getting you the best deal. :)
