Hello, i have recently become a widow and keep getting debt letters from companies in my wifes name.
I am currently declared bankrupt until 30/06/10 and as a single unemployed parent i just cannot afford to pay these people, please can anybody help me please as i was just looking forward to being debt free myself, but now have my wife debts to deal with, am i legally bound to pay these?? most of the debts are from energy suppliers especially eon, which we where disputing but the amount just keeped going up. am i legally responsable for these debts? if not how do i stop the companies coming after me for the money?
thanks

Unless they were joint debts, you have no personal responsibility for debts in your deceased wife's name. Her estate is responsible for them (which may well reduce what you receive)
As her immediate next of kin it may well be up to you to sort things out though - which may well consist of convincing her creditors that the estate has no funds.0 -
how do i convince them that i have no funds from her estate? she was only 27 and werent savvy savers, we lived to our means and never had time to save after our son was born, they dont seem to listen to me and are just demanding/menacing me for the money with me being the executor etc.
thanks
