Sold a weddding dress = nightmare , please advise !

Thing is guys , this is my problem , we sold a wedding dress , for £155 , as pick up only , but i said in the listing that i would discuss , postage if needed , please contact me , now aftre the listing ended the person is asking me to post it first class recorded , i was just about to till i realised i would only be coverd up to £41 ! and the dress was £700 new ! , but i realised this after they paid via paypal £167 , this was for the packing , the dress and first class recorded...

Now i am back and forth with them about the insurance , they are saying if it goes missing we wont blame you etc.....! thats all very well , till it typically does go missing and then im screwd !
They are quibbling , saying standard parcels is £2.25 plus the cost of the item itself £8 , but i am trying to explain to them that this doesnt include tracking , it just includes 3-5 delivery , non urgent , where as the insurance premium on a standard parcel , i think next day ? is £9 , and thats what they dont want to pay...but i think that has tracking ?

I really wish i had not agreed to this in the first place !

I have a verified paypal account that tells me i have seller protection but i so rarely sell anything i dont really understand what it means

Any help please ?!

Cheers

Have you sent them any sort of invoice at all yet? If not then send them an invoice with the payment method *you* want to use, the buyer doesn't choose, you do. However if you have already quoted them a price then you need to honor it, charge them what was agreed but pay the extra yourself to upgrade to a suitable service.

If You agreed the postage price with them and they paid. I can totally see where they are coming from. Insurance is for your protection not the customers as they are fully protected via paypal. It was your mistake as you didnt research the postage options before you agreed the postage with them.

So if you want postage with better insurance you need to pay for it out of your own pocket.

have a look at https://www.parcelstogo.com probably cheapest tracked. I was looking for a seller the other week i was interested in buying from.

Ebay have set clothes postage to the maximum you will have to take the hit for any excess. Its a pain but thats the way it goes. For insurance royal mail would quibble you would need original invoice for what you paid to get £700 if they knew it was ebay they would only refund the £155 probably. So insure for the lower value will be cheaper and more realistic.

To avoid this alot of wedding dress sellers have put courier as you can set your own courier price after and add it on.

o and i had a wedding dress arrive by royal mail special delivery this week it cost the sellers £26-27!!!!!!!! So do look at the courier website. I am sure as long as it gets to them and you stay really nice and polite the buyer will not mind how its sent.

The £12 p&p will more than cover the cost of a 48hr courier with full insurance and tracking.
There's a massive thread on here just on that subject.
Bit less panicking and a bit more research.

Definitely as all the others have suggested send it via courier. Tracked less for insurance & the actual costs are less.
There's a whole thread on couriers.

Have a look at parcel2ship. Have used them before and they have increased insurance if it's worth over £50

Please also note, that you need more than online tracking for items over £150, you need proof of signature.
For items with a value of £150 or more, you need to provide proof of signature from the recipient
Post the item within seven days of receiving payment

Special Delivery or courier will give this and the adequate insurance upgrade.
