Signing Backs of Cheques...

I've just recently been informed of this practice, specially for Banker Drafts... Why should or shouldn't I sign the back of a Banker's Draft made out to myself when cashing it?

I don't think it is necessary really but what I often do when sending a cheque for deposit into a savings account (in case it goes astray) is to write the number of the account on the back. If it were to end up in the wrong department for whatever reason it would then be directed to the right one.
  • Where are you able to cash a bankers draft? (Or did you mean paying it in to an account?)
  • Paying it in...
  • That's very different to your original post.
Legally there is no reason why you should endorse the back of a cheque made out to you but what do I know?
Perhaps cashier got confused because you have to endorse reverse of foreign cheques paid in.

The only cheques I have seen that require a sig on the back is those cheques from councils ect - that say you sign to say you are entitled to the funds
