Car Hire - Murcia Airport

Hi guys
I've just been looking at car hire prices in August for 16 days from Murcia Airport and to be honest I am completey shocked at how expensive they are. My main problem is that my family and I make a total of 6 people and so the larger vehicles are £1,000.00+ (excluding fuel) which is almost double what they were last year ! I know the euro/pound hasn't helped but still...
To be honest at this stage I don't even know if I can afford to hire a car but the location we are staying at is a bit out of the way and so having our own transport is quite important.
I'm at a loss - all car hire companies seem to be around the same prices.
Does anybody have any suggestions ?
Thanks.

You might want to think of 2 smaller cars, could be cheaper. I have done this in the past.0

Hi glewi
I have just e-mailed my usual contact at Murcia airport (Coys-Rent-A-Car). They have a website and also operate from a van at Alicante airport. When we arrive at Murcia we are met at the airport. They are very reliable. Like you, 2 weeks in June/July (even before schools break up) seems very expensive at 439 euros for a small economy car. Saw an article in Sunday Times travel yesterday saying Post Office research suggests car hire abroad cheaper this year, but I've not found it so. They don't say who is doing it.0 -
The cheapest I could find for 31 days in August was £35.00 per day plus fuel !!!!!!!!!
Its absolute rubbish saying car hire is cheaper this year....it is in fact more expensive.
In Spain anyway.
Many of the big name car hire brokers are sold out of cars for the summer hols even now.
I have have used www.economycarhire.com for many years might be worth a look.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.0 -
Thanks everybody for taking time to reply.
I do need 1 car as the kids can't drive yet ! Otherwise the suggestion of using 2 cars is a good one.
Economy seem to be about the same price but thanks anyway, mervyn11.
I've emailed Coys, eunibaby, and waiting for a reply. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes !0 -
Heard from Coys but unfortunately they don't have any cars available so I'll keep looking !0

Hi there,
Did you manage to book anything 'cheap' in the end?0 -
I have have used www.economycarhire.com for many years might be worth a look.
Don't. They are a dreadful company.0 -
Too late for the OP but I recommend Torrecar based in Cabo Roig half an hour from Murcia, used them twice. 0034966730003 speak to Tracey. Another advantage is that she's very helpful and English.0
