Received Email from Mackenzie Hall

Hi all, I know Mackenzie Hall has been brought up many times and have had a scan through the responses which are all very informative but wonder if you could help with my personal situation.
Basically about 6 years ago I went through a bad stage of racking up credit cards and loans. Last week I finally paid off my last 2 of 3 accounts with Egg (still unbelievable thinking back that they gave such a young person so much credit!!!) through a DCA.
That day, I had an email from Mackenzie Hall asking me to contact them if I am the person stated (which I am).
They gave me no further info and so far I have not contacted them. However, I do believe it is re another credit card from whom I have heard nothing from for the last 4 years...honestly, I had moved house then and was basically running from my problems which I know is such a bad thing to do but I was younger and silly.
Anyway, Im thinking the debt is about £3,000 max when we last had contact. I do want to pay this off but obviously can't afford the full amount. I know I will be able to reduce this as I have done with the previous accounts, but the thing is, I am scared silly that the initial creditors would have wacked a load of interest and charges on since this time!!!
I keep thinking that maybe I could just ignore until it reaches 6 years, which I believe is when it gets writted off (yes still running!!) but I am actually getting married next year and don't want all this to come out then and ruin my newly married life. I would like a fresh start. My other half knew about the previous accounts but not this one. This is my final one and is like a boulder on my shoulders.
Please advise. Many thanks in advance.
p.s. I have only received email, no letter or phone call. I was made redundant last year.

When did you last acknowledge the debt in writing or by payment towards it? If it was 4 years then 2 years is a long time to hide for... and they can (and will) go for a CCJ which will extend the time if they think they have any hope of tracking you down... Are you also certain that there isn't already a CCJ for this debt?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Thanks for your quick reply MrsTine. Agreed 2 years is a long time. Im pretty sure is was no longer than 4 years ago. I guess there could well be a CCJ already? How would I know and what would I do? Also, do you know if they could have added lots of interest on top of the £3000 that I remember?
Thanks again.0 -
Check your credit file with one of the reference agencies, that will tell you if there is a CCJ against this debt.
Experian seems to be the best one and you can sign up and see it for free.

Thanks Elvis, I guess I didn't want to do this as I know I would have to put in my previous addresses as well as my current address and didn't want this address to be associated with the bad debt, for my other halfs sake if not mine.0

An update on this situation...
As Elvis suggested I did a credit report and there is an outstanding balance shown for £1993 to HFO Services. Does anybody know who they are? Are they linked to Mackenzie Hall?
Also, from what I can see there are no CCJs which is good news.
Where do you suggest I go from here? I did actually reply to MH's email, requesting further information about what this is regarding but no response as yet and no other correspondance.
Thanks again in advance.0 -
Hi Tryin, Was this debt on a CC and if yes was it taken out pre April 2007. I suggest you take a read through the "Unenforcability & Templates" thread, you'll get some really good advice from NID (Never In Doubt) the Greats' thread.0

Hi Fitzer2000, thank you for your reply.
Yes it was a credit card before 2007, I will take a look on the thread and see what I can find out. Would love to get this sorted but just unsure who best to contact.0
