Hi Guys

Hope you are all well.

I have had some good news.. I have got a job interview as a Manager in a Supermarket.

**Please read my previous post** about my bullying and harrassment at current employer, for which I am signed off sick.

I am also 35 weeks pregnant so am due to start maternity leave on 25th June.

I am just about to lodge a grievance against my current employer re my unfair treatment, and to tbh I never ever expected to get a job interview at this stage, I have been applying to other companies but I genuinely didnt think I would get an interview.

My question is should I attend the interview (I have to call and get an allocated slot today)

I really do not know what to do - Before you read this please read - Am I being bullied post????

Thanks again in anticipation

Nxx

  • You are rather paranoid aren't you!

Why wouldnt you go. Yes chances are there will be a more suited candidate - who isnt pregnant, but this wont be the reason of course - but whats the worst that can happen.

My only comment would be is if your well enough to job hunt and attend interviews and I was your current employer I would be asking questions.

I don't like to put a dampener on your hopes but be honest, why would someone take a person on who will shoryly be taking maternity leave which they have to pay part of.

In the real world your chances of getting this job are pretty slim aren't they?

If i was you I'd call them. Explain your situation, you're going on maternity soon so you don't want to be seen as wasting their time. But could you please be considered for anything that comes up in the near future

Read your previous post (not all thr thread as it was rather lengthy).

My question is, why aren't you going for any other Bank Manager's positions like the one you were in before? Supermarket Manager would be a step sideways or backwards in my opinion.

I have to say, as well, as another poster pointed out, yes, you are pregnant now so some employers might well shy away from employing you to avoid to pay maternity pay etc and the worry of whether you'll return to work or not.

But, no harm in going for the interview and good luck. Do you also have any idea of if you'll return to work after baby is born and what childcare arrangements do you have in place? :)

If I were you I would not go.
You should be looking forward to giving birth now, not putting additional stress on yourself. It sounds like you are stressed enough already, and it can't be good for you at this point in time.
You could go for "interview practice" if you like, but TBH even if you do get the job you will have only just learnt the ropes before you have to go on maternity leave.
Relax, give yourself time to calm down for a bit. Once the baby is a few months old you'll probably find yourself desperate to get out of the house, and then you can start looking for jobs again.

I can't believe you're even considering going for an interview at 35 weeks. You will be wasting the employer's time. Surely it would be better to ask them to defer your interview until the next available job comes up, thereby starting a good relationship with them.

If you phone and tell them your situation, under discrimination rules they can't withdraw the offer of an interview on the grounds of your pregnancy, so to be honest, there's no point going that route.

It's really just an issue for your conscience. Could you in all seriousness turn up for an interview where, effectively, you'll be saying "I really want this job, I believe I am the best candidate for the job, I think you should give me the job, but I won't actually be coming into work for the first year"?

You are absolutely within your rights to do that should you so choose, I'm just not sure I'd ever have the nerve!

    Good luck, whatever you decide.

    A very sensible suggestion.

Staff turnover in supermarkets can be very high, by the time you've finished your maternity leave anything could have changed. Including your desire to go back full throttle into a management role!

Regardless, keeping them 'on side' can only be a good thing.

In full agreement with the being honest to the supermarket idea, you are really not in the position to be takng a new role at the moment :( Speak with them, most supermarkets are always opening new stores and your honesty would look good with them for the future :)
