Do you have to sign register to prove you attended a Future-Jobs-Fund Event??

Hi i was meant to go to a future jobs fund event today as the jobcentre had given me the letter saying i was 'required to attend'.
(It was some kinda careers-stalls fair i think)
On the letter it simply said that you had to attend between 11am - 2pm (So i assumed that you simply had to showup and sign a register at some point between 11 and 2),
as it didn't say that you had to attend ''from'' 11am till 2pm, just said ''between'' 11 and 2.
However i had a slight problem and so by the time id got dressed and walked there it was already 1.57pm,
and the place was basically deserted.
I only went into the reception area as i didn't know the building,
but as i could see that no-one was in the room and there was no jobcentre staff standing there at the entrance door with registers,
i just left straight away and went back home.
Does anyone know for definite though if at these events you do have to sign a register when getting there to prove attendance??:huh:
I haven't had any phonecalls from jobcentre or anything so it all seems fine so far,
however i don't like to have any risk at all in my life, and so wanted to know if anyone on here knows for 100% certain that theres no regisration required at these jobs fair events??
Thanks

It sounds to me as though you should have been there from 11-2.
If you needed to register and did not you will know soon enough when you are given a sanction.0 -

I very much didn't think it was ''from'' 11am ''untill'' 2pm.
As it wasn 't like a lecture or slideshow or anything where you would sit down and watch something,
the letter says (quoted)
''We are holidng an event for you to chat to future jobs fund employers, local colleges about training options, local advisers on apprenticeships, mentoring, and self employment support''.
So that means that itd have basically just been like a careers fair, where colleges and training schemes would have little stalls up around the hall,
and you would just have gone and got leaflets from the stalls that were in the job industry you were interested in working in,
then gone.
As there would been no reason for you to then hang around in the hall for 2 hours 45minutes extra once you had the leaflets that you wanted.
I dont sign on till next week on friday, and so if they say anything il just say that-
I did turn-up and have a quick look around,
but got the real info that i needed about training courses online later that day
and that there was no-one there taking the register.
(All of which is actually true even)0 -

How old are you? This isn't school - you're a responsible adult. You're meant to make sure you turn up. No-one is going to phone you and ask why weren't you there?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Im 26, and im fully aware that it wasn't a school (therefore very unlikely to have a register).
However when i missed a jobcentre sign-on before cos of oversleeping the jobcentre phoned me up a few hours after my sign-on time to ask the reason why id been un-able to attend,
and if you say that it was because you were ill they mark that off as the 1st of the 2 sign-on misses that you are allowed to have in every 1year period before sanctions would start.0 -
I went to something similar when i was unemployed, an open day arranged by the jobcentre, you didnt have to stay all day just attend and show an interest in a couple of the employers, for however long you had free between trisha and the telly tubbies.
You didnt have to sign anything.0 -

Blimey you need to sort your priorities out! You have to sign on once every two weeks and you OVERSLEPT?I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Somehow, I never had this problem when signing on. I wonder why?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Yea thanks.
I had actually planned and wanted to go to this, as i was very interested in a certain 1year fulltime training course through a local college (Hairdressing) as i found out that under the current Labour government's welfare-towork scheme i can do it for 1year fulltime while still getting full benefits money + all travel expenses to the college paid for.
(Although i will be contacting that college online to sign-up for that course from september)
But id also wanted to checkout what employers were there and if any were offering work trials.
As instead of even bothering to apply for the job when i see job vacancies i tried just even offering to work for the company in that job totally free for 1month so they could see how good i was,
and then hire me only after that 1month of free labour if they liked me.
(Yet still even when i offered for to work for free i wasn't getting any response to online job applications!!):eek:
However i had quite a later night lastnight as its student night in some of the nightclubs round here and the 1s nearer to Trafalguar square on wednesday nights,
which means very cheap drinks like 3 bottles of beer/alcopop for £10,
but which meant that i overslept past my alarm clock rings.
