I was sooooo worried last night

When I arrived home last night I found a hand delivered letter to someone who doesn't live with me. Since I couldn't return it to sender like normal, i opened it (please don't have a go at me for this, I'm so glad I did)
It was a letter from the court saying there was a warrant for this guy's arrest for an unpaid court fine  and that they were considering forcing entry to the premises accompanied by the police  - with a handwritten note saying 'next visit before 6am'. There was a phone number to call to prevent this from happening, which I rang and got no answer so left a message.
The letter looked kind of dodgy to me so I went to the police station and they confirmed it was genuine - apparently they take photocopies of blank letters and just fill in the details when they visit.
I was scared so didn't stay at home last night.
This morning I phoned the court, they confirmed no one will be forcing entry, but I might get another visit in which case just prove to them he doesn't live there (show them my tenancy agreement I presume).
I don't have a question as such, just wanted to share my experience, and maybe get some reassurance that it's all ok

Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard

blimey, good job you had somewhere else to stay last night; i'd have one eye open all night in case someone barged in!
Assuming you are renting, it may be worthwhile you contacting the estate agents or landlord to explain what is happening; just in case they DO decide to make an entry whilst the place is not occupied? You don't want to be held accountable for anything done by the previous tenant.
I hope you are ok. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...
:j One of Mike's Mob! yea!!!
Finally settled full balance of RBS personal loan ahead of schedule on 10th August 2010 :money:
DEBT FREE AT LAST... BUT FOR HOW LONG?! :eek:0 -
I'm a little surprised, if it was debt information then sure, address it to the person.
But for consideration of forced entry I would have it listed as to the persons name, or current occupier. As you could just be binning old letters. And forced entry is directly relevant to the current occupier regardless.
You've done the right thing though and got confirmation.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
