Hi all,
rec'd a letter at the weekend off Metropolitan collections.
and I'm looking for some advice on what to do next.
I've looked through some of the posts and I'm abit confused.
Do I call them and make an offer of what I can afford to pay.
They are asking for the full amount £1,500 in 7 days which I haven't got
or do I put it in writing with a copy of my incoming/outgoings?
Cheers

Hi
If you are on a Third Party Managed DMP with CCCS or Payplan for example, get in touch with them and they should forward proposals on your behalf.
If you are Self Managing your debts, I would suggest that you send them a letter explaining your circumstances along with a copy of your current budget and an offer of repayment, it may also be an idea to include a payment with your offer. Send everything via recorded or special delivery.

Never call them , communicate in writing only , and request they do the same
An outgoings and incomings breakdown would be a good idea , along with your offer , ONLY what you can afford , even if thats a token £1 a month...never answer the phone to them ,anything important they will write to you anyway...
This is all assuming you accept and acknowledge you owe the money0 -
Thanks for the advice will sort out a letter and outgoings and incomings breakdown.
I do accept that I owe the money and have been paying into HSBC account £30/40 a month depending on what I can afford that month.0 -
Hi, Brassmonkey, and welcome to MSE

A bit more information would be useful - are you sure this is your debt, what was the it for, is it your only debt, when did you last pay anything towards it, and can you afford to deal with it being the main ones.
No, NEVER call a DCA, they are notorious bullies on the phone and will tell every lie under the sun to scare money out of you!
Please alsobear in mind that although they use lots of scary phrases in their letter, like 'may result in court action' etc., if you read them carefully you will see that the key words in all those phrases are 'may' and 'could' and 'might' - they are basically trying it on, and the chances of them actually doing any of the things they threaten are minimal. So don;t panic, just come and ask for help!

it's my overdraft from hsbc, they cancelled it in December 09 and wanted the money back there and then
They called me numerous times and each time I explained I could only afford £30/40 a month due to my circumstances.
I have other loans etc but this is the only one that I'm having trouble with.
I have tried to explain to them that as of September I will be able to pay at least £100 a month but I was told Im out of time and that a final demand had been issued.
So at the weekend I rec'd the letter from Metropolitan.
also do I send the letter just to Metropolitan or do I send it to HSBC or both?0 -
They have no legal power to any money off you whatsoever.
Only a county court has this power.
Refuse to answer security questions if they ring & report them to the OFT/trading standards.Do not pay DCA's a single penny ever!
