Help Needed re Which Dyson??

We have just finished completely re-doing our kitchen and we have pretty much ruined our hoover with cleaning up rubble etc. We have had this one for almost 10 years and it doesn't really suck anymore.

We have enough money left in the budget to buy a Dyson but i'm having dilemmas about which to get.

Originally i wanted a cylinder one and was going to get the DC19T2 Animal but then i read reviews about the uprights and thought i would get one of those.

We don't have pets but i do have long hair that gets everywhere. We have mostly carpets (including a deep pile one in the lounge/dining room) but do have a wooden floor in the kitchen.

Now i've had people telling me that the extendable hoses on the uprights are a pain to get in and out and all the bits fall off. I don't want to spend £200 on a hoover and then hate it.

Can anyone give me any advice on which to get or indeed which to avoid.

Not sure if this is in the write forum either.

Don't bother, they're rubbish. Get a Miele instead.

Have you tried both? I thought Dyson were meant to be the best you can get.

I have to agree, avoid Dyson. Good marketing but poor product. Once they go wrong they never seem to work properly again.

I've had 2 Dysons. First, an upright, lasted a year, had repaired under warranty but never worked properly again, even after further repairs.

Second, a cylinder model, also lasted a year then gave repeated problems.

Both ended up in local tip.

Bought a Miele and have never looked back since.

For work I use a Henry. Brilliant little hoover and with a new bag in it, little will touch it.

  • We bought the DC27 Animal (upright) in January and I'm really impressed. Previous one was a DC04 which had lasted many years. The DC27 is fantastic at picking up the hair our cats shed and the mini turbine head which comes with it is brilliant for hoovering chairs or sofas and picks up all our pet hair. It's much easier to empty than the DC04 as it empties from the bottom of the collection bit after it's lifted off the body of the Dyson. The suction is terrific and it is horrifying to see how much stuff ends up collected very quickly!

Dyson are crap, get a Henry (the commercial one, NOT the domestic).

I wouldn't buy a Dyson if I were you. I've had two (a cylinder and an upright) and they both failed (motors) after a couple of years. I then bought a Bissell "lift-off" (about 5 yrs ago) as a refurbished unit direct from the Bissell website and it's still going strong. It cost me £40 and it looked and performed like a brand new machine, and still does. I can't comment on Miele's or Henry's as I've never had one but I wouldn't buy another Dyson. All style over function.

Again I would't recommend the dyson. They appear great at first(especially when you can 'see' what they have picked up. They are not solidly made and we were constantly replacing bits especially bits to keep the wheels on and replacement hoses.
What finally did it for me was the hall carpet had looked particularly grubby(medium coated dog/winter walks-need I say more) so I washed the carpet, couple of days later it began to smell so we decided to remove it-took it outside and gave it a shake-five shovel fulls of grit came out-seriously.
    They're not worth the money!!
