I like many, many others have been a watcher of this site but never participated until now....
I first got into debt at 18 through being irresponsible and frankly, greedy. Until 2 years ago I racked up a little over 20k worth of debt. With reading all of your lovely posts and advice I have now managed to clear it down to 3k, which come August I will have enough in savings to clear this off leaving me completely debt free. :T
Many, many letters have crossed hands along the way; F&F, begging for interest to froze etc. all the usual! And I am so pleased to finally see the end of it - it's been a big lesson on a bumpy road.
I have only managed to do this by budgeting, skinting myself and my family (I have hubby and 2 lovely kiddies), and by working my socks off. I have done all the hours and overtime god sends to pay it all back - nights/days/weekends - you name it.
The reason for my joining in today is that I was gobsmacked to see another person on here, who also got into debt at aged 18 say they had no intention in paying off anything as they were too naive to understand what they were getting into. I am proud to say I have worked hard to undo my mess. We all know it's hard but we do our best and I for one can look in the mirror and not hide.
Well done to all of us who are standing tall and sorting our mess out... and thank you for helping me.

Hi MichCoop,
first of all well done for dealing with your debt.
I also read that post and actually wondered if the OP was for real or just a troll.
It did make me mad for all of 5 seconds - not sure how anyone can justify reckless spending with no intention of paying back a penny.

Wow MichCoop! You've achieved so much! I'm the same, borrowing at 18 (hence my username) still paying back now.
I have about 4k left so I'm hoping to be debt free later this year too!
Well done for working hard. It's nice to know that in the future we won't worry what the next lot of post will bring. We have learned our lessons and are more knowledgeable for it!

It is lovely but been a loooong journey! I'm 27 now so for the first time in 9 years I'll be debt free! I really hope that other post was just a troll or that he can face up to his responsibilities.
I can't count the amount of times I have nearly gone to court or almost had my home taken away! It's amazing what you can do with a little bit of help and support.
