How to get my money out of a Barclay's regular saver?

The regular saver account I opened with Barclays last year is about to mature and the only option that appears to be available to get my money out is walking it out in cash. As it's £3k + interest, I'd much rather do a transfer into my current account (not Barclays) or get a cheque.

I assume they'll do a CHAPS transfer for me but charge me for it. Are there any other options?

once I finally convinced them to let me have my money (we had issues about id :wall:) it was really easy. My account had matured and converted to the very low interest savings account. Barclays did a faster payment into an account I held with the Halifax and the money was there within a couple of minutes (it beat me to the branch and it's only a few doors away!). There was no charge for this transfer and no waiting for a cheque to clear

Thanks for the info, hopefully they'll be able to do the same for me. I had a feeling there were other options but the cahsier I asked about it last month couldn't suggest any.

Hmmmmm what were your issues? I'll be looking to get my money out when my regular saver matures next month.

You'll need to say you want a BACS transfer otherwise they'll only offer you cash. The person I spoke to when I asked if she'd bank transfer it starting talking some nonsense about how CHAPS was going to eat into my interest and she really didn't want that.

When I said BACS would be fine it looked like she was readying another excuse before I told her I spoke to someone in customer services who said it wouldn't be an issue. Initially when I asked about alternative options other than cash she started talking about bankers drafts which again they'd charge for (even though I'd been told they don't).

I went into branch and said I'd like to withdraw the funds - ideally as a cheque.
Cashier returned with it all in cash so out I walked with it and paid it back in at my Building Society next door! Felt rich for a short while.

They also said they could not close account but I could see one of the floor walkers and they could do it. Couldn't be bothered to queue again so it's still open - probably with about 0.5p interest in it!

Just to quickly hijack the thread...

My monthly saver matures at the beginning of July, and unfortunately I'm going to be out of the country until mid or late July. I'm loathe to leave my money sitting in a low interest account with Barclays until I get back, especially when I have a higher interest account set up and waiting for it.

Does anyone know if I can arrange a transfer to an account of my choice in advance of the maturation date? I tried phoning to ask them but I couldn't get through to a real person, and it's not easy for me to get to branch.

In that situation I would put it in writing i.e. just say that on maturity please transfer the funds by BACS to whoever, maybe inform them you will be away . Personally, I couldn't be bothered with Barclays or monthly savers or high street banks in general.
Just seems to messy and the interest is not very good at the end.

She just asked me where I wanted it sending, I told her my current account (at another bank), I gave her the sort code and account number and, like a previous poster said, it was there instantly.

Confirm it's a free transfer (mention of BACS could just confuse the issue, as FPS is mainly used now, but make sure it's free).

hehe this is what happened to me.
Got a wad-load of notes which I took across the road to deposit in my savings account with another bank. I really didn't want to be mugged in those 100 yards
