I had no trouble submitting mine, I did it in early June just after I got my P11D etc, but after 6 months they told ne they had given me too much refund so I have just had to pay them nearly £300...

I would assume the reason it hasn't acknowledged your return today is that there are lots of people filing at the last minute before the deadline.
It isn't the fastest site at the best of times.

Good Luck, hope you get it sorted before it costs you £100, this is the first year I haven't been doing my tax return at the last minute.

  • I submitted mine last night and it still has not been acknowledged as being received. Perhaps there is an online problem. Their telephone number for Internet technical support is alway engaged so I sent them an email but no feedback yet. Luckily I saved/printed off a copy of my tax return before I submitted, so at least I could take it to the local tax office tomorrow. I also successfully made my payment at https://www.billpayment.co.uk/inlandreveune.

Why in the world can't you print one out? Did you fail to save a copy of it on your PC before submitting it?

I have copies of all my last 3 online returns saved as PDFs so I could print them out whenever I need them.

The previous post is spot on - pay at https://www.billpayment.co.uk/inlandrevenue (address garbled in last post) and it is instantly credited to your IR account and you will avoid any late payment penalties.
  • We all seem to be having the same problem.

The return submitted yesterday is still being shown as outstanding, so have resubmitted it today. I expect that will add to the pressure on the web site if everyone is doing the same. Even the facility to email the IR with a query or problem fails with a server timeout.

Fortunately have a copy saved but still concerned about how to contact the Revenue. I wonder where we stand if the return has not been received by tomorrow night? There is so much hype to use on-line submission that if it is falling over there should be egg on someones face.

Why do I feel that when dealing with the Revenue then it's going to be mine?
    Nice to save.

    Into the frying pan ............

Now get the message, that for security reasons I cannot log in as they cannot verify my details -

As for not saving the return before submitting, what can I say ..... I like living dangerously ;)

    Still !!!!
  • Got an email at 6:41am this morining saying :

"Thank you for sending the Self Assessment submission online.

The submission for reference xxxxxxxxxxxx was successfully received on 29-01-2005 and is being processed"

Looks like they may have sorted out the online submission acceptance just in time.

Provided that you pay any tax you owe today then you will not have to pay a penatly (up to £100) if your return is not deemed to have reached the Inland Revenue today. If you are due a refund then you will not pay a penalty.

I would give the system a while to acknowledge receipt as it will be very busy in the few days leading up to the deadline tonight.

For tips on how to pay see this page.

You can also take your payment or return into ANY tax office today and they will give you a receipt to prove it was submitted on time. Many offices are open late this evening to help - see here.
