A bit of light relief.. I think!

Just been putting my 5 year old to bed. Was lying with her telling her how Daddy didn't have to work and she didn't have to go to school in a couple of weeks because it was a bank holiday Monday. We talked a little bit then she sprouted "So mammy, what are we going to do on Bankrupt Monday?" Well my face must have been a picture. It's not something you want your 5 year saying to the world and his grandmother! She said "Whats wrong Mammy, have I said a naughty word?" I replied "Er no, you've just got mixed up. Bankrupts are people who don't have any money, look were not bankrupt because I've got some money" I pulled 50p out of my jeans pocket. "No mammy, were not bankrupt because we've got a nice new house with two gardens and that costs lots of money" "That's right pet, night night".

Er, how bad do I feel, how and when I'm going to tell her I don'tknow. She must have picked it up from me or my PC screen. Sheesh! lol :rotfl:

  • For a five year old, she seems to have a good perspective on things.

Maybe Mummy could take some comfort in that.;)

She is happy right now, thats all that matters.

makes me think it is a shame we grow up sometimes, and in doing so, we lose focus on the important things.....now....not the past or future

By the time she is old enough to understand, you probably won't tell her as it will be a distant memory and won't seem important! I think the best time to tell her is when she does something stupid with money (probably teenager/young adult), and you can use it as a lesson in finance.

I think I know who you are. No, I know who you are because you have this sense when i'm struggling and say some simple words that put everything that i've talked about that day into perspective, making me snap up and think yes, stop wallowing. Not the past, not the future. I'll enjoy now. You know you should set up your own help and advice forum... you'd be good at it :) Thank you

Maybe we should all stop labelling ourselves as "bankrupts". It isn't a label we need to wear for ever, just a difficult period on our lives. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger?

And that sums up the goal.

I never expect BR to be understood by those that never face it, but accepted will do;)

When I get AD I will not ever describe myself as a bankrupt or an ex bankrupt for that matter. Nah, I am bankrupt now but when I'm discharged goodbye label!
