Easyjet refunds for hotel etc. expenses

I am wondering if anyone has had a refund from easyjet for these. After we were refused easyjet organised hotel and food when stranded due to the volcanic ash, I was told that these would be refunded on several occasions by easyjet call centre staff.

On our return we submitted all of our receipts etc. via the easyjet webiste. This was on around 24th April. So far we have received only a short email to acknowledge the email. The form on Easyjet's webiste was quite ambiguous, for example we were stranded for 8 nights in total but it was not possible to claim more than 7 nights using their form.

If anyone has had any joy via this method, I would be grateful for feedback. I am considering if I should either write to them instead of using their email form, I still have all the original receipts. We were hoping to get the money back a bit sooner as we have now had to pay the credit card bill and this has put us into a bit of a finacial hole for the month. I am annoyed, as other customers in our resort were provided with accomodation and care by easyjet directly, but on asking for the same the easyjet staff at the airport (in uniform) denied that they even worked for the company!

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

I can only tell you that we did the same thing as you and have heard nothing apart from the acknowledgement mail from Easy jet.

We weren't as lucky /unlucky (depends how you look at it) as you, we were offered no accomodation at all, but we were told by several easy jet staff that all expenses would be refunded.

I have since read on the website that they expect refunds to take up to 3 months, and due to high volumes of claims , not to contact them for updates after submitting the claim. However, someone in the MSE arms forum has already had a refund!

I had intended to give them 1 month to sort it out before I chase them up, so that will be around the 28th!

I submitted my claim on 23rd April and had only had the acknowledgement email. I too read that someone had recieved their refund and so sent Easyjet another email a few days ago but have not recieved any kind of reply yet. I think I shall wait until the end of the month and then perhaps try again. I have also posted a question in the same vein on Easyjets 'Get Satisfaction' website forum. So may get an answer via that.

I agree that an initial gap of 4 weeks would be reasonable given the number of claims they will be processing. After that a second communication asking for an update on when you will receive your expenses reimbursement would be in order.

If you receive no firm date following that email/letter or have not heard back within 6 weeks from the date of your original claim, I would send a Letter before Action sent recorded delivery to their head office, giving the airline 7 days to reimburse you or you will commence small claims court process, thus adding any legal fees to your claim. This might have the desired effect.

    Excellent advice, thank you. :)

I assume they had contacted you by email as well to tell you they were paying you?

Yes,I had an email on 10 May saying my claim had been approved but payment would take 15-20 working days but the money appeared in my bank account the next day! I have to say I have been impressed by Easyjets handling of this 'ash' event considering they were not to blame for the eruption!

hi fellow sufferers of EASYJET - we recieved the return part of our journey refunded over the phone - directly onto the credit card. However, our expenses of hotel and food etc we had to send in. This was approx 3 weeks ago - and nothing yet. There was no duty of care, no one at the airport - nothing. we didn't really know the area and had to find a taxi and ask for a hotel.

We were told they had no hotels to offer, that everywhere was already full, so we were expected to find our own accommodation and pay for it and then charge it to Easy Jet!
Fortunately we had somewhere to go, but what if we hadn't?

I too sent our food and car hire receipts by email. However I had no phone number to ring them to get our return flight costs refunded , do you have it ?

hi - don't have the phone number to hand but if you look on the easyjet website and go to volcanic ash sign - it is on there about contacting them by phone. It took ages to get through - goodness knows how much it cost in calling them.
