prescription charge..anyone work in a pharmacy?

My prescription has the following

C 500mg pessary & C 2% cream.
1 pack of 1 pack

L 150mg capsule
1 pack of 1 capsule

______________________________

2 items on thos prescription.

Went to Tesco pharmacy this monring.

Filled in to pay for 2 items.

She told me it was 3 & would have to charge for 3.

I've had the 1st item before...it's 2 things in the same pack...1 internal & a cream for thrush. Never been charged for that as though it's 2 items.

I assume they are wrong but wanted to see if anyone on here knew any different.

I nornally go to the Boots next door but was off to Tesco. Will go elsewhere later, lol!

I'm suprised she didn't charge you a script charge for each capsule too.

If it's one medication and it comes in one box, ie together, then it's 1 item.

Was there anyone else there to ask?

That's only 2 items as far as I know. I've only ever been charged for the combo pack as one item.

She was so rude I didn't bother to argue.
Never been to the pharmacy in tesco & never will again, lol!
    There is only 1 capsule.
As I didn't go to Boots I will have to go to the pharmacy in Morrisons. I loathe morrisons, lol!
    Thanks for the replies!

My GP told me I'd have to have 2 separate items on a prescription for the medication you mention, and it would be cheaper to just buy it, so didn't give me a prescription.

Then when I got to the pharmacy the pharmacist told me that was rubbish and I should have got a prescription as it was one item!

    You just can't win!

This says that it's a charge per item. There are only 2 items on the prescription.

Well, I'll see what happenes later at a different pharmacy.

I think it actually depend on what way the GP has written it on the prescription.

If it's prescribed as a combi pack then it's one item. If he's written it out separately then it's 2. I would have asked to see the prescription again, and also asked if it was cheaper to buy than pay the prescription charges.

    Hi
    Boots pharmacist here.
The first item is a two charge item as it contains two different items. It is packaged as a combination pack for convenience. therefore it was correct to be charged for three items.
The first item can be purchased over the counter and it is usually cheaper to buy it off prescription. for example in boots that would save you about £3.
    Hope that helps.
let me know if you want any more info
