Items not listed on police report

My daughter had her handbag stolen whilst on holiday. Not all the contents were listed on the police report so the insurance company are not considering those items. As soon as we realised the mistake I emailed ins co but they never replied.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • it really would depend i'd imagine on what was missed off and why it was missed off ...was it declared to the police ? or did you remember later ?
  • If its was in the UK just ask to update the police report.

Her mobile phone (value nearly £200) and her driving licence were missed off the police report. She knew she didn't have ins for phone but didn't realise it was covered in her holiday ins.

probably a bit dodgy as i'd imagine the police report details what the person has had stolen ...it's not really relevant to the police whether it was insured.
your best bet is to keep all records of you cancelling the phone, remember not to throw away anything like the original receipts , contract, even the phone instructions. the driving licence i think you'll be ok with ....unfortunately the insurance companies are wary of items being added due to unscrupulous people!!!

Not even the licence is being considered!!!
I could have sent receipts for one of my expensive handbags ( or our camera )if I were trying to pull a fast one, but told them her bag was valued £15.
I just feel let down by their system, they assume we're all unscrupulous.

It's not that insurance companies assume that you're unscrupulous; insurance companies themselves are unscrupulous! The only thing I can recommend is to go through the terms and conditions with a fine-toothed comb to see what you need to make a claim.

Insurance is great when it works. I'm off for a short break in a few weeks and don't need to worry at all about being hijacked. My insurance covers me for this and will pay up to £20 for every 24 hours of the hijack. Phew - I can sleep easily at night now(!)
