As a buyer - what do you want cheap shipping or free posting ?

and as I said , free postage is a fact , stating a delivery schedule ,( this should be in Ebay rules and regs what constitutes a business day , working day , whatever - and if the buyer cant be asked to read and understand this then all the more reason for it ( this section anyway ) to be taken out of their hands and included in the DSR machine )
that is met or exceeded should automatically rate X on the DSR machine
perceptions should be built out of the DSR system for what are factual componentsAs Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question !

I'd rather see a higher postage and lower selling price.
The reason for this is that I know the seller gets more of the money (less to EBay/Paypal for fees).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving, Gardening, and Crafting boards.

Did an experiment after reading this thread.
I usually list non-selling "stuck" stock on auction at 99p, with p & p exact plus 15p, usually manage to get sales on around 30% of it, never taking much more than £2 on an item.
This time, I set the initial item prices at p & p cost plus 50p, to take into account any extra fvf, with p & p at 99p.
Everything's gone, quite a few for a good few pounds over the start price.
Coincidence? Maybe, I've no idea, but I'll certainly be listing this way again.0 -
How could you prove when it arrived?thepedestrian wrote: »and as I said , free postage is a fact , stating a delivery schedule ,( this should be in Ebay rules and regs what constitutes a business day , working day , whatever - and if the buyer cant be asked to read and understand this then all the more reason for it ( this section anyway ) to be taken out of their hands and included in the DSR machine )

If it's based on when the feedback is left then the seller that I've just negged would be lightning fast (it went too cheap, apparently ) and if it's based on tracking.... well, that would be problematic to say the least.
What if it doesn't turn up within the delivery estimate? It could because of royal mail, volcanic ash, or just because the buyer is having trouble deciding what to put into their bespoke item?
You're falling into the buyers trap of despatch=delivery.
Personally, although I despise the people who bump up their price with postage, I do think the P+P star should be removed and replaced with a purely packaging one. This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

That wouldn't work, One persons fact are anothers perceptions. To some people an email after purchase and one on dispatch is good communication to another buyer its bad as they just want the item
.A 1 day dispatch. If it goes royalmail before midday it could arrive the following but if its put in the post after the last post its still one day dispatch but it will take longer.
There is no way to sensibly do this and it would probably make the system worse.
The system we have is what we have to work with, If it gives buyers more confidence and keeps seller standards higher i'm all for it. Most sellers work with it which is all you can do. All I know is my sales increased once DSRs were brought in so I must be doing something right0 -

Thats quite a short sighted view. The more fee avoidance (which is what it is) yes the less fees ebay get, But if everyone does this and ebays profits go down all that will happen is FVFs will rise and we all end up paying for it.0 -

no fact and perception of facts are 2 different things , free postage stated in listing is FREE POSTAGE - no perception of is it ( because maybe they hiked the start price - duh - dont bid then ) or isnt it - it is - as stated in listing which would be an automatic X rating in the machine
did it get to you within the time period stipulated ? yes / no ? - ( within 2 days / after 2 days ? ) where is there a perception in that ?

That's madness.thepedestrian wrote: »

So, what you want is a system where an item that has been posted off the same or next day which then gets stuck somewhere for 2 weeks gets a low rating?
Even though the buyer can see when it was posted?
Or an item that was never recieved at all, but promptly refunded once it became clear that it wasn't going to arrive?
So you are essentially forcing otherwise reasonable buyers to either lie or to leave damaging ratings.
Yeah, good plan.
Ebay would love you- you'd cut their discount budget down to nothing within a week. This is my opinion. Lie ?! where does that enter in to it ?? -
if you had read the whole thread , there was a provision at the end of the DSR machine as to wether the rating given was to be used or notAs Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question !

The star in question is for dispatch time, not delivery time.
Obviously it is the sellers responsibility to get the item to the buyer, but is it really fair to mark them down in the cases where postal delays are clearly evident and beyond their control?
There is another similar, and equally ludicrus thread on the PSBoard at the moment for discussions around Top Rated Buyers....<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
