Virgin TV - Debt Collection letter - Furious!

Hi guys
I'm looking for some advice. I cancelled my Virgin TV in March because I moved home. I was advised that I had to give 30 days notice and that a bag would be sent to me when the account was closed for me to return my box.
I waited for my final bill and paid this in full on 1st April. I've been waiting for a bag and nothing has arrived.
Today, I came home to a new bill from Virgin for £55 being an unreturned box fee! On top of this, I have also received TODAY, a letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery Limited, saying that there is £55 outstanding on my account and this must be paid within 7 days. My virgin bill was issued on 28th April and the Debt Recover letter was dated 30th April!!!
I called Virgin today absolutely furious and they said that they would send the back to me and this should be with me within 3 to 5 working days. In the meantime, they are not cancelling the fee until they receive the box.
Moorcroft say that I must pay this £55 within 7 days or they will take further action. Clearly there is not going to be enough time for me to receive the box and send it back to them.
Laughably, Moorcroft say the normal way to deal with this is to pay the £55 to stop further action being taken, and then claim the £55 back from Virgin when the box is returned. Yeah right...do I sound like a mug!?
But I'm worried about further action being taken and I'm furious that debt collection proceedings have been taken two days after a bill was issued (even if I didn't have the box, how can they justify this?). Is there any chance this can affect my credit rating? Does anyone have any advice about what I should do?
Thanks for looking

Yes that is correct best to pay them and claim it of virgin after the box is sent back

Thanks, if Virgin would only send me a bag to return the box I'd do it! I don't see why I should have to pay a fee and rely on Virgin returning the money to me. I don't just have £55 to lose for weeks while it gets sorted out

Just be glad it's not £250 as that's what they can charge!!0

My mate got billed for £250 but he paid it and got his money back of VM but took him awhile0

No you donot need to pay them £55 now or ever.
You owe Moorcroft nothing tell them you dispute any debt and ignore them after that. It could not affect your credit rating in any form, to do that you would need to go to court, that is not going to happen as you are and always have been happy to return your box and the only reason this has not happened is due to VM, Ignore Moorcroft and return the box by a registered method.0
