Any venues recommended in Herts/Beds area?

Hi,

I've just started looking for a venue to hold both the civil ceremony and the meal/evening do for 70 - 100 people in the Herts/Beds area and would appreciate any recommendations. I would also appreciate any 'must avoid' places:eek:

Many thanks

You don't state a budget, but off of the top of my head Woburn might be a good place to start. I've been to a wedding at the Inn at Woburn (although the number of rooms put me off a bit). In North Beds (on the Bucks border) you have my venue, a Best Western hotel. Also consider Holiday Inn (£1k deals appear quite popular).

Bedford itself has a lovely riverside hotel which I wanted (not convenient for my guests to get to, however), and I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a tonne of other localised suggestions. Can't help on Herts I'm afraid as I don't know the area v well.

I wish I had the budget for Woburn! My other halfs jaw hit the floor when the brochures arrived!

We found Letchworth Hall Hotel very good value for money (if your on a budget), we're getting married in a church then having our reception there. We found the atmosphere nice and relaxed yet the standards are good.

Keep me updated as to where you choose!!

Thanks for all your suggestions, I'm working my way through pretty much every venue in the area!

Visited Brocket Hall (Golf Club and Auberge), Tewin Bury Farm, Bedford Swan and Barns Hotel.

The Brocket Hall venues were expensive and had things about them I wasn't keen on. I also didn't really like the Bedford Swan or the Barns for various reasons. My partner and I are pretty much set on Tewin Bury in Welwyn but they're really busy and have literally 2 dates available for the whole of next Spring/Summer. We've held a date in May provisionally for 2 weeks so now I just need to race around everywhere else to make sure I haven't missed anywhere special!

Thanks for your help, I'll keep you posted :)

Tewin was one of our choices - it's really lovely, and they seem really professional.
we only turned it down because we found a nice little place that would be exclusive for us on the day.
It's not too far away from there actually - just on the Cambs border - called South Farm.

  • Charlie,

We were searching for a slightly smaller venue for yours - for around 50-70 people - so some of my suggestions might be a bit small for your needs.

There's photos and short descriptions (including why we didn't choose it) on my Flickr set here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/stuartpinfold/sets/72157622303964890/

In the end we settled for somewhere in Northamptonshire closer to our families (we live together in Beds but our families are both in Northants).

    Good luck!
