Hi

i am spending the moring cutting back a very large tree like bush and have no idea what to do with the branches leaves ect... is there anyone that collects this stuff in derby at all do you know?

i have tried the councils website but theres nothing about garden waste and it would take months to dispose of bit by bit in my brown bin..

if anyone has a chipper in derby and wants it come get it ;)

but seriously any help would be most appreciated :)

ps iv tried signing up for freecycle but it just aint happening stupid site just keeps messing up on me, its not very user friendly :( i remember we had problems signing my mom up! live in different area too so cant get her to put it on :(

If you have a council run tip locally they will have a skip for this kind of waste, even the unmanned tips sometimes have one.

I don't know how big your garden is, but if you have space then it could be the start of a woody compost pile, little critters love them.
But if you have burning sized wood, then freecycle is your best bet, persevere with it. :)

Do you have a local freecycle group?

    http://www.uk.freecycle.org/

Anything that is burnable wood on ours seems to be snapped up quickly and the recipients collect from you.

I m thinking would it be possible to cover little seedling coming through the ground from birds and things until they are established then take them to a tip.

The evening before the green waste bin is due to be collected, I knock on my neighbours' doors and ask if they have any room in their bin and can I top it up? I have it ready - cut up into short lengths so that it will fit - and I disperse it amongst 5 or 6 bins.

If I still have a load of stuff then (whispers in case the council are listening) then I put it in the bottom of my main household waste bin, as soon as it is emptied.

Small twigs are cut up into thumb-sized pieces and put in my compost heaps, bigger branches are used as 'pea-sticks' to prop up flowers that may keel over in the borders, and huge branches are chainsawed and stacked into a wood-pile for wild-life and for anyone who wants it.

I sometimes do this anyway when we have cut the hedge, pop it into a bin bag first, they haven't said I shouldn't do this:)
