Egg+HBSC= DD nightmare!

Oh help. Flipping Egg and HSBC are doing my head in.
I used to bank with HSBC, they are now one of my creditors on a DMP. All my DDs were cancelled with them over the phone literally months ago when I lost my job and I now owe them for my OD. All my bills now come out of Lloyds TSB, my Egg DD was cancelled obviously along with all other 'non essentials' when I started the DMP (only this month!) so WHY have I just had a letter from HSBC saying they have rejected my DD and the creditor is Egg?!

Can Egg resurrect and old DD without my say-so??

  • Did you inform egg that you had cancelled the DD? I am pretty sure that if you only cancelled it with HSBC then egg will try and take their payment via DD.
  • Welcome and all the best at sorting your problem out with egg and hsbc- I deal with egg online soni don't know about direct debt cancellation over the phone. All the best though :-)

Thanks for your replies. The thing that has confused me is that I cancelled everything when I left HSBC and set up a DD for Egg with my new LLoyds account which they took regular payments from for a couple of months. Didn't even know they still had the old HSBC details. Any ideas anyone??

I was advised that if a direct debit is cancelled on a current account then the money can't be collected. Someone tried to take money out of mine from a cancellled DD, it showed the money going out and coming back in the same day as there was not enough money, I was told there wouldn't be charges as the bank could see I'd cancelled it.
    Could you speak to HSBC?

I'm going to have to write to them as I can't ring them. Being in the first month of my DMP I'm not very popular and being bombarded by calls from morning til night about it, I'm just not too sure what to say to them about it as I cancelled my DDs with them over the phone so have no audit trail.

I also want to know what the hell Egg think they are doing drudging up bank details from over 6 months ago when I cancelled my DD with them online!
