How much do you put aside a month for fun?

I have an overdraft, and realistically if I want to make headway I need to spend £120 this month on entertainment, is this a lot or a little? I am just used to spending a lot more than this, I just want an idea of what everyone else spends on pubs, eating out etc per month..

Thanks

hi it depends on how much you owe!!
i think this is too much and you could bring it down to half at least!
have friends round for a meal and a drink and everyone bring one course each and a bottle each.
or you could hire a film in or get one on bt vision or sky if available with nibbles and drinks again brought in by everyone doesnt have to be a full blown evening out!! best of luck x:j

For me that would be a lot. I tend to invite friends round rather than go out for a meal, and if we go to the cinema I would take my own drinks and chocs in with me. And preferably try one of the cheap days or two for one deals.

However we all have different priorities, so it's very much an individual decision. If you feel that £120 is what you want to spend after cutting down, and you can still make progress on your overdraft then stick with that. (Unless your debts are getting out of hand, which is a different scenario.)

I allow myself £100 each month. This has to cover clothes, going out, gifts, anything other than normal budgeted household bills/fuel/car running costs.

Most months it's fine, I have a bit left over. I don't smoke and I don't go out on the town very often.

I could manage on less but I have already drastically changed my spending habits and I find it helps to know that I do have some money which I can spend on whatever crap I want. However, knowing that it has to stretch helps me think hard about what I want to spend my money on.

it works very well for me but I have a good income (most of it goes on paying debts off at the moment mind! :) getting there though!)

I agree that it depends on how much you earn, if you have to support others etc etc. I just have to worry about myself.

Hi, thats just for me. I am used to going into town you see, it seems to be the only thing my friends do. I dont have many close friends I can have dinner with or can invite over. My social life sucks but thats another story, and a reason why I tend to overspend..

Overdraft is only £1500 with the hope of being £1000 paid off when I get paid next week provided I stick to my budget.

    .

Hi Snow Queen, do you and your mates (or are they not your mates as you don't seem too keen on them) go into town round the pubs/clubs drinking? How many times a week do you go out? What do you spend your money on? drinks/supper/taxis/meals out??

Give us a bit more detail and we'll try and give you ideas on how to cut down or spend it differently.

You dont seem too keen on going to town to spend money, why not make a break and start doing things for you?

As for the amount of dosh, I have an OH and 3 kids and we probably spend about £10 a month, but we do still have nice days out but we go when there is an offer on, such as 1p bowling, or go out for meals using clubcard deals tokens. You could make it a challenge to spend as little as poss while still having fun :)

I know everyone deals with debt differently..... but if I owed £1,500 I wouldn't be spending anything on 'fun' until it was paid off.

OH and I save £125 a month each and this pays for holidays, days/meals out and the odd takeaway.
