We stopped paying all creditors 3 months pre BR. We sent £1 token payments the first month but nothing after that, to be honest it was a waste of time and money.
They weren't prepared to listen to our change in circumstances. It was only when CAB offered to write on our behalf with exactly the same information and evidence of income really to buy some time before the BR did they take our situation seriously.
It was too late by then and would have only delayed the inevitable.
You wont get into trouble but you may have creditors ringing and writing trying to pressure you into paying. I would just tell them you are seeking professional advice to deal with your situation and not mention you are planning BR.
Good luck with it all

hi,
i have to say when we tried token payments (when tried to start a dmp) it didnt make a difference they still called and sent letters that the charged extra fees for!
when we decided to file for BR we were told not to bother with token payments at all. We have had 6 months of saving, not paying mtg or debts. yes they send letters, but the phone numbers have been changed
in my opinion token payments are more for when you are trying to sort out some sort of payment plan...something to show them your are trying and can make some sort of regular payments in the future.0
