"Whenthemusicstops" When the music stops speed dating cancelled event and won't refun

My wife paid £20 for our daughter to attend a speed dating event hosted by Whenthemusicstops http://www.whenthemusicstops.com/ The event was cancelled, they didn't let us know and we only found out when we arrived, (I drove my daughter 20 miles to get there only to find it been cancelled on the night). This was on the 11th March and since then she's been trying to get the money back. There has only been one acknowledgement to many e-mails, and she has left numerous messages on the organisers mobile phone.

Now my wife is being ignored, she has e-mailed all their online e-mail address's but never gets a reply. My wife has given up, but it doesn't seem right to let them get away with keeping her £20.

I've never had deal with anything like this before, any advice how to try and get the £20 back?

Organisations like the Citizens Advice Bureaux can do it, so can the trading standards, and as this is basically theft, the police should be called and given the organisers address and phone number.

Anyways, if your daughter wants a speed date just send her my way i will date her permanently :D

Hope you get it sorted out, cops are the first stage of this complaint they too will be able to advise you further, maybe get a few hunderd £££'s from the event organisers in compensation too for your troubles.
    Owed out = lots.

Thank you for your reply. I'll give trading standards a call on Monday, I feel we should chase this up but don't want to spend more money in the process. If they suggest going to the police we'll do that.

If you were nearer to us I'd ask you for more details regarding the dating!

Write to them, recorded delivery, demanding a refund. According to companies house their registered address is

    FELLEY LIMITED
    AIZLEWOOD BUSINESS CENTRE
    AIZLEWOOD'S MILL
    NURSERY STREET, SHEFFIELD
    SOUTH YORKSHIRE
S3 8GG see if you get anywhere with that. If not you could take legal action, but for £20 it's probably not worth it in all honesty.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I think a registered letter to their head office would be reasonable last step.

My wife says the same that for £20 it's not worth the hassle, but why should they get away with it?

I'll see what response a registered letter brings. Thank you again.

Happy to say this has now been resolved. I got a reply from a manager who took up the case after one of my e-mails sent on Saturday got read.. They sent their apologies, acknowledged we were badly treated and gave a satisfactory explanation, which basically said they had been let down by local organizer who they described as 'incompetent' and who was no longer working for them.

Not really concerned about the details, just happy to have got the refund. Now my wife is happy, but my daughter is still looking...

Glad it is sorted....and you didn't go to the CAB, Trading Standards and Police as others have suggested.
