Can I get out of a Vodafone Contract?

I have been with Vodafone for 6 yrs now and whilst Ive not had full signal at home it has never been a problem before

I have upgraded my phone in Jan to a Blackberry Curve 8520 which I love and do not have any probs with, BUT I now dont get a signal at home at all, SOS on display even 2 roads along from home address.

I have spoken to tech help at Vodafone who kindly told me I could purchase a signal booster for £50 as its correct, I dont receive any coverage in my area? I politely declined this offer, why should I have to pay £50 for something I should receive with them anyway? He then said I could pay £5 a month for it to which I again politely declined lol

They then said if I wanted to cancel the contract I would have to give 30 days notice and pay the £480 I would owe them for the remaining 21 months!!

Is this right? Surely they are not providing me with the service I am paying for so I am therefore entitled to cancel my contract?

I am more than happy to stay with them if the provide me with a signal but not otherwise.

What can I do?

It may be the phone is faulty, or it may be you have a weak 3G signal, but a fine 2G signal, hence it was not a problem before. If it was working OK and now isn't it may be there is a a local mast faulty that needs looking at.

Get the phone checked but 3 months into a contract you have very little chance of getting it cancelled. If you had complained immediatly you may have a better chance but unfortunatly not 3 months down the line.

    Sorry

If you have problems you need to tell them asap, otherwise you are deemed to have accepted the level of service provided. In the T&C is does state coverage is not guaranteed, so you must raise complaints quickly.

Some phones are better than others at picking up a signal. So try alternative phones with your sim card to see if it is the phone. If it is not the phone and coverage is actually not been provided then seek out if there is a mast issue.

gjchester raises good points on the phone, faults coudl cause signal issues, but more importantly is if you have set the phone to use 3G it will prefer a weak and pointless 3g signal over 'any' 2g signal even if the 2g signal is great. To test this simply see if you can change your phone from dual/3g mode to gsm in the phone settings.

    Hi claireh11,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with signal issues at the moment.

I would love to look into this situation for you and help you further, as it seems very odd that you were previously able to get a signal and now it's not possible. This could be down to a problem with the handset or the SIM card and I would need to take a more in depth look to give you a definite answer.

However, I am sure that we can find a resolution. If you could contact my team via - Web Relations Team - Vodafone UK we will help you further with this.

(When contacting, please quote the code WRT135 in the subject line. In the main message body, please include a link to this thread and your user name. This will ensure that your message comes directly through to our team.)

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

The handset is 2g only so you're stuck on the 2g network, Voda are providing a service, just not where you happen to live, I'd email the correspondence department who will try and sort it out
