The ridiculous lies baliffs tell! (Capquest anyone?)

Right, I got a letter from 'Capquest on behalf of HL Legal' asking for £306 (and if I didn't reply in 7 days, £100 in legal fees). I didn't reply for almost 3 weeks as I was on holiday for a week, then I spoke to my solicitor. The debt is the result of a girl I used to know going into the branch, pretending to be me, and withdrawing chunks of money. Unfortunately it is too late for CCTV evidence so there is little the police will do apart from tell me 'oh it was definately her'.
Anyway, I called Capquest and got through to they typical rude youth who said I am liable for the full amount as I didn't take out insurance on my bank account! (I was never offered this, it was a cash account only no debit or credit cards to insure). I said no-one I knew insured their bank accounts and he said 'well its the same as if your handbag got stolen. If you had £300 in cash in it you'd never get that back, would you!?
He then agreed to wait '14 days' for the bank to send through all the fraud documentation hopefully to clear my name. 'What if the bank takes 15 days to reply?' I ask. 'Well that's up to us to decide we might take you to court!!!?!'
How THICK are baliffs! (Still very unworried and rather bemused by the whole thing)

Hey there,
I'm quite amused by your post and the situation they're trying to force upon you. What's the 411 now?
