Hi,
If a debt is statute barred will this debt still be listed on your credit file/report or does it "drop off" after so many years. Thanks in advance.

Assuming that the creditor defaults the debt, then it will stay on your credit report for 6 years from that default date.
The debt itself becomes statute barred 6 years after the last payment or acknowledgement.
If the creditor is to default the debt, then they should do so within 6 months (at the very latest) of you failing to pay under the contract/obligation.
So, it is possible that a statute barred debt could legitimately remain on your credit reports for up to 6 months after it actually becomes statute barred.
Also, you should have in mind that not every debt always shows up properly on your credit report. Especially if the account has been sold on several times.
So.....
1) Just because a debt shows on your report doesn't necessarily mean that the debt isn't statute barred.
2) If a debt doesn't show up on your credit report, that is not conclusive evidence that it is statute barred.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks.
The debt/s is/are definatley statute barred. (CAB assistance and No CCJ's relating to them. 7/8 years old. some sold on and hassled by the collectors but all have responded to CAD drafted letter and backed off/closed files).
Just wondered what should be expected in terms of credit reports in relation to this. If statute barred debts do remain on your report or if not and shouldn't be there can you ask for them to be removed.
many thanks.0 -
