Mobile phone - cancelling early (other network paying cancellation fee??)

Hi

I have about 8 months left on my mobile contract (with O2) and if I was to cancel, the cancellation fee would be about £240. The reason I am thinking about cancelling and the options is because the phone signal for when at home, work and at parents is rubbish. Sometimes even with a signal I can hear the other person but they cant hear me.

I think I heard somewhere that if I move to another network and I have to pay a cancellation fee, that the other network sometimes pays it???? Did I hear right or was I just dreaming it??

I am thinking of moving to Vodafone. A friend who had Vodafone had a signal at my home fine and also Vodafone have that SureSignal thing.

Thanks in advance

Carphone warehouse will sometimes buy you out, but have to in the last few months of your contract.

Other networks have never offered to buy each other out...

you would need to be taking a serously high useage contract for anyone to pay out £240 for you
how much is your handset worth?

Hi, i don't know if its any help, but a friend of mine recently ended his contract about 3 or 4 months early, because he literally rang them up and said i've had enough of this rubbish signal, i can't even receive calls in my area, i'm cancelling the direct debit and not paying another penny.

They told him they'd agree to that if he sent the phone back to them. Which he did, and they cancelled.

I will be lowering tariff again in about 2 weeks to next lower tariff. About 2 weeks ago lowered the tariff already.

Will still have to pay a cancellation fee for around £200 odd if I do that.
  • Hi asy1mo,

Can you keep lowering your tariff, get your phone unlocked by O2 and use a Vodafone PAYG SIM until the early termination fee is small enough for you?

This way you could test Vodafone before you walk straight into another contract.
