Replacement key or reprogramme?

hi guys, I have a 56 plate 207 the main key in on it's last legs it still works but is held together with gaffer tape, not sure what to do

Should I get a replacement, timpsons quoting £125, peugeot a lot more.

Or could i buy a fob from ebay (peugeot ones ~£20) and transfer all the components across to the new fob? I have a mate who's a mechanic but on holiday, is this something he could do, or would it need to be done by a specialist? and therefore probably not that much cheaper.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers,
zaf.

You should be able to get the casing from ebay or similar and transfer the innards over. Don't forget the little chip inside which just needs to be removed and put in the hole of the new key. It's very easy to change and no technical knowledge should be required.

cheers mate, probably gonna go for the ebay fob and see how that plays out, it might be a £20 gamble but if it works it's saved me over £100!
