Questions pls? Is NI stamp automaticaly paid for incpapcity benefit claimants?

I would like some help with some questions I have please?

I am 43 and worked for 16 years while paying national insurance.
I then got medically retired and started receiving incapacity benefit and DLA since 2004. I live in a mortgaged home.

  • Is my national insurance stamp automatically paid as I am on IB?
  • Will there be gaps in my national insurance record?
  • Will my state pension be affected?
  • If so, is there any way I can fill these gaps so my NI record will be complete?
  • Will there be a lot of expense involved if I need to fill these gaps?
  • Would it be worth my while to do this, given my circumstances?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Yes, your stamp is paid whilst you are on IB. You can get a pension forecast here, but I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.
    Gone ... or have I?

Yes your NI is paid whilst on IB, you receive NI credits.
There will not be any gaps as long as the IB has been paid continuously.
Your State Pension will not be affected adversely.
You can pay up to the last 6 years if necessary.
The HMRC site gives details of voluntary contributions.
You need 30 qualifying years to receive a full state retirement pension.
